19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former trainer Cervara.
Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since March of 2023.
Victory also means he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's defensive approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to question if his ability to perform at the top level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.
He came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional title, gained dominance to force a third set.
Moutet rescued four early-game chances in a tight third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.
Suitably, he secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
